PUTTING DOWN ANCHOR AT HOPEFIELD GREEN
Retired trawler skipper John Moodie has found his ideal berth at Hopefield Green in Bonnyrigg.
John, who sadly lost his beloved wife Joan three years ago, was keen to move closer to his family and the three bedroom Denholm terraced home was the perfect place for a new start.
Situated just a mile away from son Brydon’s house in Bonnyrigg, John’s new home is in a thriving community surrounded by rolling countryside yet just 20 minutes from his other son Gordon’s home in Edinburgh.
John said: “I was on my own in a big house in Port Seton and Brydon said now was the right time to move as I am 75. Jean in the sales office was absolutely brilliant and helped me out with lots of things like choosing the kitchen units, like most men I am not a very good at that kind of thing.
“I love the new house, it is beautiful and just so warm and cosy. The heating is so energy efficient and the house is so well insulated I don’t have to use nearly as many covers at night as I used to.”
One of the other big attractions of the end terraced property is the 60ft long driveway, which is a favourite place for John’s Maltese dogs to play. Also important to John is having enough space to store treasured belongings from his previous home.
He said: “I really like the fact that there is plenty, plenty, plenty of storage space in the house, I have a lifetime’s worth of possessions and I wanted to keep as many of them as I could.”
With a striking turret design, the Denholm has a large lounge with French doors out to the garden and a kitchen with two sets of windows to the front of the property. Upstairs are three bedrooms and a family bathroom, with the master featuring an ensuite.
The location of his home opposite a beautiful park was another big draw. As a former sailor used to spending long spells at sea, having open vistas was important.
He said: “I can look out of my window and see right up to the houses at Newtongrange which is terrific and it is great that no houses will be built in front of the house.
“I have a lovely back garden as well and I am looking forward to the better weather so that I can spend more time out there.
“I cannot praise the house or the Grange Estates team enough – the site workers are so professional and helpful and June in the sales centre has been absolutely brilliant.”
Bonnyrigg’s town centre, with its avenue of trees, has a selection of local stores including a chemist, bank and post office. A Tesco supermarket is a short drive away and larger high street stores are available at Straiton Retail Park. Kids will love the local leisure centre with its fun flumes, pool and fitness facilities and there is a good local primary school.
