Finding a home that works equally well for both toddlers and teenagers is no easy task.

While teens need space for friends to visit, close to their school and activities, little ones need a safe environment with lots of room to play outside.

Fortunately for Lesley and Jamie Laing they were able to find the perfect property for their family of six at Walker Group’s Seven Wells development in East Calder.

They bought a four bedroom Swanston home, which is proving ideal for Jamie’s two older children Emma, 17, and David, 15, and the couple’s little ones Cameron, three and eight-month-old baby Harris.

The Swanston has the ideal layout for the family with an open plan dining room and kitchen area with french doors out to the back garden, downstairs cloakroom and separate utility, lounge and integral garage on the ground floor.

Upstairs are four bedrooms with the master featuring an ensuite and a large family bathroom.

Lesley, who has recently returned to work part-time in a nursery, said: “The house is so spacious and the open plan layout of the kitchen is fantastic as the wee ones can play or paint while the older two are relaxing on the sofa in the family room and I can be getting on with preparing food in the background. It is a real social hub for the family and means the teenagers don’t spend all their time in their bedrooms.

“We love the house and the location is great for the older kids school. Even better one of Jamie’s childhood friends has moved into the development. They grew up in the same street and their parents still live next door to each other, so it is nice their children will grow up together too.”

The family love spending time in their large back garden with lots of space for the toddlers to play on their scooters. With so much room the Laings are planning to grow their own vegetables.

Lesley added: “Walker Group has been great from day one – there was no hard sell, we never felt under pressure to make a decision. A house is a major purchase and they encouraged us to take time to think it through properly which was very refreshing.

“We are so glad that we bought the house and the after care service has been first class.”

The development of two, three and four bedroom homes is just 13 miles from Edinburgh, and the nearby railway station has direct links to the city, making it ideal for commuting and days out in the capital.

Also just a short drive is Livingston Designer Outlet, one of Scotland’s leading retail destinations with shops, restaurants, state of the art eight screen cinema and Paradise Island Adventure Golf.

East Calder is the perfect place to explore the best of both worlds. Almondell & Calderwood Country Park are on the doorstep and there are 75 cycle routes in the unspoilt countryside.

The village itself has great facilities with a range of local shops, two good primary schools, a doctor’s surgery and the Xcite Sports Centre, featuring a recently refurbished Health and Fitness Centre and Sports Hall.

Prices at Seven Wells currently start from £169,000 for the three bedroom semi-detached Glenelg.
