WESTERWOOD WAS PERFCT TO A TEE

WESTERWOOD WAS PERFCT TO A TEE
Undoubtedly one of the major highlights in our history was the day world champion golfer Seve Ballesteros arrived by helicopter in Cumbernauld to officially launch our Westerwood development and play on our golf course which he co-designed with fellow professional and Ryder Cup star Dave Thomas.

Westerwood was a £50million flagship development spanning a 400 acre site and at the time, in the late eighties, was ground-breaking. As well as the championship golf course as its centre piece, it featured a residential development, with some properties overlooking the 18th green, and the Westerwood Hotel and Leisure Centre, complete with 50 beds, a conference facility, restaurant, bars and a swimming pool.

It was one of the first large scale developments in Scotland to combine residential and leisure elements and was the first course Seve designed in Europe. It took three years to develop and required a massive earth moving and site clearance operation to build the houses, trees, fairways and greens.

At an exclusive launch event, invited guests were offered the opportunity to play a hole with Seve for charity and there was no shortage of people wanting to sign up to compete against the golfing legend.

And if you were lucky enough to snap up one of the properties at the time, the starting prices were only a mere £7,975!
