Perfect Home for Tots to Teens

Perfect Home for Tots to Teens
With 40% of first-time buyers already having a family according to the latest research from Santander, the ideal starter home is no longer a one bedroom flat.

A new report from the mortgage lender says that the most popular starter property is a three-bedroom semi-detached house, a finding which comes as no surprise to Walker Group Director Sandy Casey.

She says many of the housebuilder’s first-time buyers are now skipping rungs on the property ladder and opting for larger homes, as they are reluctant to take on the costs and upheaval of trading up every few years.

To meet the demand, Walker Group has released a new phase of three-bedroom homes at its Long Meadow development in Ormiston which are ideal for those with young children.

Priced from £210,000, the stylish Kennedy has a bright front-facing lounge and open plan kitchen with dining area with French doors opening out to the back garden, ideal for summer entertaining or watching young children play while working in the kitchen. There is also a handy cloakroom on the ground floor and two storage cupboards. Upstairs the master comes with its own ensuite. There are two other bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Equally impressive is the three bedroom semi-detached Hendon from £215,000. This stylish home boasts a kitchen to the front of the property and a large 16ft long lounge dining room opening out to the back garden. There is also a handy cloakroom on the ground floor. Upstairs the master is also impressively proportioned at 16ft long and comes with its own ensuite. The other two bedrooms come with wardrobes and there is a family bathroom.

Sandy Casey said: “With the average age for a first time buyer now 33, they have a completely different outlook and aspirations to a first time buyer twenty years ago. They expect to stay in their homes for much longer and need their properties to be future proof and be able to adapt to the changing needs of their family as the years pass.

“Ensuites for example are great when grandparents come to stay when the kids are small, and when toddlers turn to teens give them more privacy. The open plan kitchens and dining rooms which were great for hosting parties when the couple first move in are equally useful when the kids are older as parents can get on with chores while the children are drawing at the dining table or later on doing homework.

“Regardless of your life stage, these homes have been designed to be low maintenance and come with lots of useful storage space.” Located 14 miles from Edinburgh Long Meadow boasts a choice of three, four and five bedroom homes. Ormiston offers an attractive village lifestyle, just three miles from Tranent and 20 minutes’ drive from Fort Kinnaird Retail Park. Wallyford rail station is just over five miles away offering a regular 14 minute service to Edinburgh Waverley.

A stunning showhome is open for viewing Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5pm, EH35 5AB. Further information is available from the sales office on 01875 816 262 or 01506 413101, walkergroup.co.uk.
