Buyers Camp Out In Car Park To Secure New Homes
When it comes to perseverance you would be hard pressed to beat house-hunter Fiona Johnston who camped out in her car for two days to secure her dream home in North Berwick.
Fiona and husband Barry, from Port Seton, had their hearts set on a four-bedroom Canterbury home at Walker Group’s Glen Ora development in North Berwick and were determined they weren’t going to miss out.
The mum-of-two turned up at the sales office three Thursdays in a row to ask sales advisor Louise Kerr if the plot was being released for reservation that weekend as homes there are being sold on a first come first served basis.
When sales advisor Louise Kerr finally received confirmation the property was going to be released, a delighted Fiona set up camp outside the sales office, sitting in her car in the car park all day Thursday and Friday with husband Barry arriving in the evening to take her place.
Fiona said: “Barry lived in North Berwick as a teenager and although we had a great life in Port Seton he always fancied moving back. When we heard they were building new houses in town we went for a look and just loved Glen Ora, which is close to a good primary school for our children Sam (10) and Emily (7) and an easy walk from the train station. The showhome there had such a nice feel to it and the sales advisor was so welcoming.
“We really wanted this particular Canterbury as it was on a lovely west-facing plot and thought it was worth a bit of discomfort to buy our forever home. Each Thursday I packed the car with all the essentials for camping out so I didn’t even have to go home first, I was ready to go.”
Also joining her in queue for the two days was Sophie Duns and the pair, who are now going to be next door neighbours, struck up an instant friendship.
Fiona explained: “Sophie was queuing up for a three bedroom property that had just been released so we got to know each other really well and hit it off. The whole experience of camping out turned out to be surprisingly fun.
“Barry worked in the car at night with a bean bag and a lap top and on the Friday the kids came over too and had a picnic on the grass outside the showhome with takeaway pizza. I don’t think any of us will forget it and we are can’t wait to move into our new home in six months time.”
Sandy Casey, Director Walker Group said: “Some of the plots at Glen Ora have sold within minutes of being released so we introduced the first come first served system to make it as fair as possible for buyers, some of whom had been waiting for months for the right plot to become available. We have had people camping out at the development in the past but it is rare to see such dedication – Sophie and the Johnstons certainly deserve their new homes!”
It no surprise that the properties at Glen Ora have sold so well as it has an unrivalled location and each of the homes comes with high quality finishes and fittings as standard and includes a stylish and practical kitchen and bathroom, along with a high-efficiency heating system and appliances to help ease carbon footprint concerns.
The development is designed to be family friendly and North Berwick’s popular primary school and highly regarded High School are a short walking distance from Glen Ora.
North Berwick is one of the jewels of East Lothian, with miles of unspoilt coastline, world class golf courses and streets lined with an incredible selection of trendy cafes, fine seafood restaurants and interesting art and craft shops. There is even an old-fashioned sweet shop and artisan bakery.
