FALKIRK WOMAN WINS TOP GARDENING COMPETITION
Karen Weir Kennedy's green fingers have won her top prize in a prestigious gardening competition organised by house-builder Walker Group.
Karen, from Falkirk, beat tough competition to scoop £1,000 to spend on her garden.
Her garden received 891 votes from the public in the #myprizegarden competition which was run on social media and attracted entries from across Central Scotland.
Sandy Casey, Director of Walker Group, said: "We couldn’t believe how much thought and effort so many people put into their gardens, we had some amazing entries from spaces designed for relaxing and entertaining friends to country cottage gardens.
"Karen is a very worth winner, her garden looks terrific and we hope she has lots of fun spending the prize money. The competition was open to people across quite a wide geographic area - we didn't realise until we contacted Karen to tell her about her prize that she actually lives in a Walker Group home at our Meadowcroft development, we were too busy looking at her lovely lawn and flower beds!"
Karen added: "I am absolutely over the moon, I can't believe I won as there were so many amazing entries. When I heard about the competition I thought I would give it a go and I was thrilled when my garden reached the final 10 but didn't expect to go any further.
"My parents are keen gardeners and I guess I picked things up from watching them at work. I am very grateful to Walker Group and everyone who voted for my garden."
The Braes is a popular development in a quiet residential location with fantastic views of the surround area. It will feature 73 three, found and five-bedroom family homes when complete.
