ALL ROADS LEAD HOME TO MONARCH’S WAY
There certainly is no place like home for John O’Connor who with wife June has just moved into their dream property at Monarch’s Way in West Calder.
For John, a pathology scientist, was born just yards away from the development in an old miner’s cottage and spent the first few years of his life there.
He said: “It all happened quite by chance - we were passing the area and saw a Walker sales portacabin and popped in to find out more. When Mary the sales consultant told us where the houses were being built about a mile from there I realised the plot was next to where I was born. It was just unbelievable, it definitely felt like fate was playing a hand in our move and bringing me home.”
John moved out of the cottage when he was just two years old and travelled around the world as an army medic before returning to Scotland to live in Inverness and most recently Bathgate.
The O’Connors’ new property could not be more different from the traditional miner’s cottage with its contemporary kitchen and bathroom and large open plan lounge and dining room.
A four bedroom Lismore, it is perfect for entertaining the couple’s family and friends with French doors opening off the dining room. A useful utility room leads off the kitchen and there is a downstairs cloakroom and integral garage.
Upstairs the master bedroom has an ensuite and there are three further spacious bedrooms ideal for when their grown-up children and two grandchildren come to stay.
John said: “It is a world away from the cottage where I started life. It had a combined living room and kitchenette with a coal fire and just one bedroom shared by the five of us!
“The house has far exceeded our expectations - we just love it and feel really happy here. The neighbours are great as well, everybody knows everybody else and we all exchanged cards at Christmas, it is a lovely place to live.”
Located just four miles from Livingston, Monarch’s Way will feature a collection of two, three, four and five bedroom family homes when complete.
Named after Charles X, who visited West Calder in 1832 when in exile from his native France, Monarch’s Way features some of the developer’s most sought-after house types.
Surrounded by countryside, Monarch’s Way is just a short distance from West Calder’s centre which offers a range of shops, a supermarket, cafes, bars, restaurants and professional services.
Ideally located for commuters with its own train station, there are regular services from West Calder to Edinburgh taking just 27 minutes and passengers can get to Livingston in just 3 minutes. It’s just a ten minute drive to The Centre Livingston which is one of Scotland’s leading retail destinations with over 155 shops and a tempting selection of restaurants and cafes.
There are lots of things to see and do in the surrounding area including a visit to Almondell and Calderwood Country Park, where you can walk the dog, picnic by the riverside or explore the woodland where you can see Roe deer roaming wild.
The showhome and sales office at Monarch’s Way EH55 8UX is open from Thursday to Monday 11am-5.30pm. For further information call 01506 413101.
