Walker Group Supports New Zoo Enclosure
Livingston based housebuilder, Walker Group, has donated £1,000 to the Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder to help fund a new snow leopard enclosure set to open in the Spring.

The money was raised by hosting a successful staff auction of former showhome furniture. Staff were then invited to nominate their chosen charities to benefit from the proceeds and the Five Sisters Zoo was a firm favourite.

The Five Sisters Zoo, which is owned by Shirley and Brian Curran, is home to over 177 different species of mammals, birds and reptiles from all around the world. The new enclosure will accommodate two female snow leopards who are being rehomed from Belgium.

Sandy Casey, Director, Walker Group said, “The zoo has been very successful in a number of recent rescue projects and its ongoing work, combined with their involvement in arranging many community activities is really admirable. We were keen to help after hearing about the lovely young bears who had been rescued from Albania which is such a great, heart-warming story. The cost, commitment and dedication to running the zoo each day must be huge and we’re delighted to have been able to provide support.”

Shirley Curran, Owner, Five Sisters Zoo added, “What’s most important to us is providing a safe home for animals who are in need. We are beyond grateful to Walker Group for their very kind donation which brings us one step closer to opening the new enclosure and welcoming the snow leopards.”

Five Sisters Zoo is open from 10am daily (except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) and has indoor and outdoor play areas and a restaurant, in addition to the zoo.
