Walker Group Helps Transform Play Park
A giant mural has been unveiled at the children’s play park at the top end of Ormiston village in East Lothian, thanks to funding from housebuilder Walker Group as part of East Lothian Council’s Percent for Art scheme where developers fund public art works.

The 11-metre long painting by artist Laura Manescau from Tranent has transformed a dull wall into a riot of colour featuring children playing, a hot air balloon, rainbow, butterflies and inspirational slogans inspired by the local primary school curriculum.

The mural was the brainchild of the Ormiston West Tenants & Residents Association who were keen to brighten up the playpark which is popular with the young children in the village.

Mark Ormiston, Chairman, said: “Walker Group are building a new development in the village and we approached them and asked if they would help us to make the play park a more fun space for the wee ones.

“They were happy to pay for the artist and materials and even donated money for ten new tents for Ormiston Primary as well. “The finished result is amazing, Laura has done a fantastic job and the local children love it.”

Sandy Casey, Director Walker Group, said: “We were delighted to help the residents’ association, we have received such a warm welcome from the people of Ormiston and so many of our clients who have bought homes in the village have said how impressed they are by the friendly atmosphere and community spirit.”
