Staff pedalling for charity success

Staff at leading Scottish house builder, Walker Group, are in a spin this summer, spending their holidays and free time in training for a charity bike ride in aid of Childline.

A team of 13 colleagues plan to take part in the charity cycle which is a gruelling 53 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh, and will take place on 9 September.

Walker Group has supported the children’s charity since 2005 with staff pledging their time and support, such as abseiling off the Forth Rail Bridge, as well as a number of corporate initiatives, including donating kitchen goods to the three Scottish Childline offices.  To-date the company has raised in excess of £70,000 for the charity which is the UK’s free, 24 hour helpline for children in danger or distress.

Sandy Casey, Director, Walker Group said, “We’re mid-way through our training and with the holidays, a few of us have trailed behind, but we’re having a lot of fun and are really looking forward to crossing the finishing line!

“For many of us, it’s the first time that we’ve actually been on bikes in a number of years so its great feeling of achievement.  To be honest though whenever it’s wet or our enthusiasm for the training is wavering we just have to think of the children that we’re helping and it doesn’t take long to get back in the saddle.”

Walker Group has launched a Just Giving page to help in its fund-raising which can be found at http://www.justgiving.co.uk/walker-group

Based in Livingston, Walker Group is active in all aspects of property development, including commercial and residential, and has new home developments at locations including Cumbernauld, Bonnyrigg, Falkirk and Tranent.
