Nordic Influence Comes to Monarch's Way

Nordic Influence Comes to Monarch's Way

A showhome which pays homage to the new wave of Scandinavian design is now open at Walker Group’s Monarch’s Way in West Calder.

With designs from Carol Yates Interior Design, the four bedroom Gladstone has the unfussy, relaxed, contemporary look that is the hallmark of Nordic design and features a colour palette of greys, whites and blues along with oak furniture.

In keeping with the Scandinavian tradition of maximising natural light to combat the long dark winter nights, the elegant lounge has a cool colour palette of soft beige and blues, with bold teal armchairs adding a punch of colour. A reclaimed wooden coffee table, oak cabinet and over-sized ceramic accessories all help create a restful, tranquil and stylish environment.

The open plan kitchen is very much the heart of this welcoming home and showcases classic designs with a contemporary twist – such as a simple pine table and rustic bench teamed with on trend black and white chevron cushions. An elegant, tall backed, grey button sofa is paired with a geometric throw and a bee print cushion in the family room, creating a vibrant buzzy atmosphere. A samphire yellow honeycomb rug completes this warm, inviting space.

The master bedroom demonstrates that this style aesthetic doesn’t have to be stark with its soft pink bedcovers and striking ochre velvet winged headboard with black and white cushions. Moroccan touches such as an ornate chest of drawers, a decorative arched wall mirror and gold fretwork bedside-table add some subtle glamour.

The second bedroom is very light and airy, with the kind of low pale oak bed commonplace in Swedish homes, blue bedcovers and simple cosy knit throw creating an effortlessly chic room. Blues and greys appear again in the third bedroom and in the beautiful nursery with its delicate tree mural and painted wooden cot. A velvet nursing chair is the ideal spot for new mums to snuggle up to their wee ones.

Sandy Casey, Director of Walker Group, said: “Everything feels so fresh and bright in the Gladstone, it instantly lifts your spirits when you visit. Today’s Scandinavian designers are championing understated luxury and amazing design rather than the flat pack furniture and primary colours of old and this house is a wonderful example of what you can achieve with this look.”

Monarch’s Way will feature a collection of two, three, four and five bedroom family homes when complete, just four miles from Livingston.

Prices currently start from £173,000 for a three bedroom Albury ranging to £270,000 for a five bedroom Brampton.

Named after Charles X, who visited West Calder in 1832 when in exile from his native France, Monarch’s Way features some of the developer’s most sought after house types.

Surrounded by countryside, Monarch’s Way is just a short distance from West Calder’s centre which offers a range of shops, a supermarket, cafes, bars, restaurants and professional services.

Ideally located for commuters with its own train station, there are regular services from West Calder to Edinburgh taking just 27 minutes and passengers can get to Livingston in just 3 minutes. It’s just a ten minute drive to The Centre Livingston which is one of Scotland’s leading retail destinations with over 155 shops and a tempting selection of restaurants and cafes.

The kids will love West Calder’s Five Sisters Zoo which has over 160 species of mammals, birds and reptiles - from meerkats to arctic wolves.  Recent additions include four ex-circus lions. A great family day out, visitors can also enjoy the large outdoor play and picnic area.

There are four good primary schools in the village and there are plans to replace the current West Calder High School with a brand new multi-million pound building which will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment.

There are lots of things to see and do in the surrounding area including a visit to Almondell and Calderwood Country Park, where you can walk the dog, picnic by the riverside or explore the woodland where you can see Roe deer roaming wild.

The showhome and sales office at Monarch’s Way EH55 8UX will be open from Thursday to Monday 11am-5.30pm. For further information call 01506 413101 or www.walkergroup.co.uk
