Walker Group is ringing with success after raising £35,000 for children’s charity, ChildLine Scotland, the free helpline for children and young people in danger or distress.

This substantial donation follows the Livingston based housebuilder’s pledge to make a donation for every home sold at the company’s six developments throughout Scotland, along with fundraising activities which the company undertook throughout 2006.

“As a house builder we understand the importance of family life and building a brighter future for our children.  We hope that our support to ChildLine Scotland has allowed more children to find the help and advice they need to have happier and safer lives. We aim to further support the charity in 2007,” said Sandy Casey, Sales Manager, Walker Group.

ChildLine is the UK’s free, 24-hour helpline for children and young people in danger or distress.  Since it began, ChildLine has provided in-depth counselling and protection to over 2 million children and given comfort and support to thousands more.

Last year ChildLine Scotland counselled more than 30,000 children and young people on issues including bullying, physical and sexual abuse, bereavement, pregnancy, family issues, substance and alcohol abuse, suicide and many more concerns and issues.

“We are absolutely delighted that Walker Group have raised such a fantastic sum for ChildLine Scotland so far. In order to maintain and expand ChildLine’s much needed service for children and young people in Scotland we have a constant need to raise more funds and recruit more volunteer counsellors.  The generosity and commitment from Walker Group is helping to ensure that more local children get the vital help and support they need, and for that we are truly grateful,” said Zoey Hillman, Senior Fundraiser, ChildLine Scotland.

In addition to the main ChildLine service – 0800 1111 – the charity operates The Line for children living away from home (0800 88 4444) and a textphone service for children with hearing and/or speech impairment (0800 400 222).   A line for young people concerned about Bullying (0800 44 1111) is also in operation.
