Fidra Lions Hockey Club in North Berwick has netted a £1,300 sponsorship deal with housebuilder Walker Group.

The money has been used to buy new strips for the club, which features boys and girls from across East Lothian, from Musselburgh to Dunbar.

The strips were presented by Sandy Casey, Sales and Marketing Director for Walker Group.

She said: “Fidra do a tremendous job in teaching young people not only how to play hockey and keep fit but about the qualities of sportsmanship - respect, teamwork, discipline and determination.”

Norman Gray, Club President of Fidra Lions, said: “We are very grateful to Walker Group for their continued sponsorship, without support from companies like them we would struggle to fund the team.  Having decent strips is tremendously important for a team as it gives the young people a real sense of pride in what they are doing and encourages them to succeed.

“Our Under 16s team won 1: 0 against a strong Edinburgh side on their first outing in the new kit, so they definitely have given our players confidence.”

Sandy added: “We are about to start construction on a new development of family homes on the outskirts of the town and we wanted to show our commitment to the local community.”

Walker Group’s new Glen Ora development is located in the former Mains Farm area of North Berwick and the first phase will feature a range of luxury family homes. Building work is due to start early in 2015.
