Going for Gold With Walker Group

Going for Gold With Walker Group
Golden girl Alison Patrick visited Walker Group’s Hazelbrooke development this week to say a big thank you for their support as she attempts to cycle into the history books in Rio 2016.

Para-triathlete Alison, who is visually impaired, received £5,000 sponsorship from the housebuilder. She used some of the money to buy a new bike and brought it along to show staff at the Kirkliston sales office.

The 27-year-old has had a meteoric rise to the top of the sport, winning a gold medal at the World Championship in
Edmonton in Canada in August with guide Jenny Manners – just a year after she first started competing in the triathlon.

The physiotherapist, who is originally from Livingston but recently moved to
Dunfermline, was drawn to the sport after injuries stopped her promising running career. She competed in 1500m and 800m events and also represented Scotland as an able bodied runner in the world mountain trophy.

Alison said: “Having sponsorship from Walker Group has made such a difference to me as I have been able to buy a better bike and pay for some of my training costs.  I haven’t had a lot of financial support so far as I have only been competing in triathlon for such a short time.

“I am hoping that I will be awarded funding from UK Sport so that I can cut back on my hours at work a bit as I am having to fit in my training around my day job.

“My dream is to win a gold at Rio 2016 but I have still to find out if my event is being included – if not I will have to wait till the 2020 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.”

The determined young athlete swims at six every morning and then runs or cycles every evening, while managing to work 30 hours a week as a physiotherapist.

Sandy Casey, Sales and Marketing Director of Walker Group, said: “Alison is an amazing young woman and an inspiration to us all. We were so proud when we heard she had become World Champion.

“We are delighted to be able to help her as she pursues her sporting goals and will be following her progress eagerly.”
